Where the Volcano Breathes & the Ocean Listens:

December 9, 2025

There is a moment every morning in El Salvador when the sun lifts itself from the horizon like a blessing. A warm gold hum spreads across the water, touches the sand, climbs the quiet spine of the volcano, and finally reaches us.

We sit facing the ocean, backs long, palms open. The world softens, and suddenly the simplest truths become the loudest.

Swami Vivekananda once said, “In a day, when you don’t come across any problems, you can be sure that you are traveling in the wrong path.”

Here, between fire and sea, we begin to understand him. The waves do not fear the rocks; the volcano does not apologize for its heat; and we, too, are invited to meet life without shrinking.

This retreat is not an escape.

It is a return, to the breath, to the body, to the quiet warrior inside each of us.

When we step onto our mats at sunrise, we practice what Vivekananda taught:

“The greatest religion is to be true to your own nature.”

And so, we listen inward. We observe the thoughts that carry weight. We let the truths we’ve outgrown dissolve like footprints in the tide. By afternoon, the ocean calls us forward. Some of us paddle out for the first time, unsteady, wide-eyed, hopeful.

Some of us catch waves that feel like small miracles. And in every fall, in every rise, his words echo:

“Stand up, be bold, be strong. Take the whole responsibility on your own shoulders.”

The sea becomes a teacher. The volcano becomes a mirror. Community becomes a soft landing.

In the evenings, as the sky washes itself in apricot light, we gather for reflection, journaling, sharing, unlearning, remembering.

We speak honestly. We listen deeply.

We honor the parts of ourselves we’ve abandoned on the way to becoming “responsible” adults. We remember that joy is sacred. Presence is medicine. And freedom begins with awareness.

Swami Vivekananda reminded us that “All the powers in the universe are already ours. It is we who have put our hands before our eyes and cry that it is dark.”

During these days in El Salvador, we gently remove that hand. Slowly. Tenderly. Together. And what we find beneath it is what he knew all along: That the divine spark lives within us, not in some distant mountaintop monastery, but in the breath, you are taking right now.

As the February retreat approaches, we prepare to step once again into that sacred meeting place: where yoga becomes remembrance, where nature becomes teacher, and where the soul becomes undeniable.

You are welcome here, exactly as you are.

The ocean is waiting. The mountain is listening. And your inner fire is ready to rise.

With Love,

Marci
